Happy Belated Birthday to Yvette Marie Stevens, better known as Chaka Khan, “Chaka the BAWSE,” “Queen Chaka swear she me” (the last two are her names in my head, fight me). Chaka celebrated her 61st Birthday yesterday and she is still fine! Getting her start in 1973 with Rufus, she graced our favorite tracks such as “Tell Me Something Good,” “Sweet Thing,” “Hollywood,” and one of my favorites “Do You Love What You Feel (‘Cause I loooooooooooove what you do to me).” I grew up hearing Chaka’s music especially her collabs with Rufus. However, I didn’t fall completely in love until I heard “Ain’t Nobody.” As I got older, I began to appreciate all of the older hits that I grew up hearing during Saturday morning cleaning sessions.
She then went on to continue her greatness as a solo act and bought us “I Feel for You,” “Through the Fire,” “What Cha’ Gonna Do for Me,” and another Rufus collab “Ain’t Nobody.” Due to her contributions to Soul music, she has 22 Grammy Nominations, 10 Grammys, and other awards including the Soul Train Legends Award.
Today’s Music Monday celebrates the music of Chaka Khan!
