With the Holiday’s and the New Year approaching, it’s apparent that health is on everyone’s hot topic list. From fitness challenges, fad diets to New Year’s resolutions in the making; fitness is a staple in today’s society with many avenues and programs to choose from. In an ever changing environment it can become overwhelming, with more excuses to turn to food than ever. Health and fitness isn’t a one size fits all situation and while it caters to the masses, it’s so much more complex than commonly explained.

My fitness journey started in September of 2012, roughly two months after I delivered my son. A friend of mine had started a six week fitness challenge and I decided to go for it. She required us to document our stats in a blue folder she provided upon arrival. I still have that folder today with those stats. I wear those stats in the back of my mind as a reminder of where my journey and my dash met. Like two friends tagging along for a ride where no destination is determined until upon arrival.

I can tell you that in the beginning of my journey and my dash, they had a lot of “aha!” moments, sacrifices, highs and lows. My journey and dash have many funny and sad stories they could tell you. Like one time, I really thought right after having my son; I could just drink lemonade mixed with molasses and cayenne pepper. I think they still laugh about that one. Or the one time, I was just going to drink liquids and protein shakes. I also tried the HCG Diet, diet pills, low carbs, and no carbs, hopped on one leg and barked like a dog. And while these yielded results, I wasn’t fit, I wasn’t healthy, I was dieting and that was it.

It wasn’t until I started doing an aggressive home exercise program that I realized, hey, I actually have to eat! I didn’t start off by eating clean, but I did watch my calories and the weight dropped. Not only did the scale dip, but the muscles formed I was stronger, I was confident, I was motivated. I was conquering and I felt great; mind, body and soul! And that’s when I found my fit! Later I formed my Road To Hauteness group and started focusing on eating clean. We genuinely challenged ourselves weekly with our diet and fitness goals. I can honestly say that this group helped motivate me and kept me on my toes to lose the remainder of my weight. Present day, I am 85 lbs. down and I did it in sixteen months.

When people think about the traditional methods of losing weight the majority  think about countless hours in the gym, running, calorie trackers , juicers, gadgets ,protein shakes, workout clothes, equipment, this diet, that diet, pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time! There are so many options and methods to choose from. You have to make choices factoring in finances, time, and fitness level, most important your motivation. How bad you want it?

The most crucial decision you will have to make when starting your journey is finding your fit! You have to find out what method works for you and how your body reacts to your chosen regime. Some people are not gym people and some people can’t stay home and workout. Some people want to keep their curves, build muscles, lose inches, or just simply tone. Whatever you decide to do, find your fit and rock out with it. You can’t do what everyone else is doing and expect the same results because we aren’t built the same!

If you decide to start your fitness journey this holiday season or New Year, just remember to stick with it, work out even when you don’t want to, eat clean/healthy and get with a positive support group. But it’s paramount to find your fit along the way. When you enjoy doing something, you don’t mind doing it. Have a great Holiday all and remember MODERATION is Key!
